My SS 4 year long service award arrived this week so I felt I had to share.
Ticks all the right boxes IMO and seems to be a quite minty Petz & Lorenz (or 'Type 2' if you prefer that naming convention). I do suspect it may have spent some time on a medal bar as the black coating is just a little chipped on the right hand side as though its spent some 'bumping and grinding' time against another award. The ribbon i'm not so sure about, it passes the burn test but I don't have a black light for further testing. Just something about the weave looks out of place to me, perhaps I'm just being paranoid as it does match to many other examples i've found during searches.
Looking at that ribbon on full screen is making my eyes go funny, so here's a better pic of a genuine 50mm width Long Service ribbon in the regulation cornflower blue which hopefully should be good enough to compare with.
Regards, Ned.

Reason: Removal of bogus info, terribly sorry!

As has been stated, the SS 4 Years had Very wide ribbons and a softer weave than the ribbon that is currently on your medal. I'd give the thumbs Up to the Medal and the thumbs Down to the Ribbon. However, as before, to be Safe, I would strongly suggest sending both to me for immediate disposal and removal from the unsuspecting collectors field...
(Now...where's that 8 year? )

I do actually have my eye on an 8 year at the moment William , i'm just waiting for the 12th when my next salary gets paid. I'm sure however that you'll immediately declare it a fake and advise safekeeping at your place when it does arrive!
I suppose I could buy a cheapy Treue Dienst Ehrenzeichen (25 Jahre) and pinch the 35mm ribbon off that. At least its a cheap way to gain an extra 5mm of width. (I've never seen a 50mm cornflower blue ribbon for sale so maybe a 35mm will have to make do?)
