OK. I am picking up another envelope and medal, but without the ribbon. Hopefully that's a good envelope and I can replace this questionable one. I tested the ribbon again, I did not detect any glow from it. The package has some adhesive that glows, but nothing else on it glows.

    Hi.,

I have a Carl Poelath, Schrobenhausen type. The ribbon is a fake, dont pass the UV test.
The packet and the medal maybe original from the Carl Poelath, but i dont believe it is a wartime made.
Comparing the photographs attached with my medal, I'm sure they are equal.

I'm thinking that I should just return this set and keep hunting. Too many questions and concerns with this set. Anyone strongly feel otherwise?

It'll always niggle you everytime you look at it, from my experience......

It seems a pity, but I do not think I can write more. R. SCOTT.

It's not like they're rare and hard to find or expensive. Like Ned said, it'll always eat on you whenever you look at it. You may as well send it on back the way it came and pick up one with no controversy. (and besides...the zinc was vigorously eating away the bronze finish, in any case, on this one!)

Thanks everyone. I agree with Ned, too. If I put this in the display, I will be questioning it every time I look at it, and I don't need that stress. I will be sending it all back. And I will be avoiding Carl Poellath (sp?) in the future. I'll go stare at my helmets for a while, that will make me feel better!

    Sorry bud!

I wanted to like it for you. I have more stinkers than I want to admit! We all learn one way or another.

No problem, man. The more I looked at it the less I liked it. Hopefully the seller honors the return policy.

The only West Wall medal I've ever seen with a maker stamped
on the ring was selling for $60. If you can find the earlier type,
these are made of tombac brass with a bronzed finish that
does not get 'eaten' or worn away easily.

Look for a heavier card material for the envelope. They are a
darker brown colour. Below are examples of earlier medals
and three genuine envelopes for comparison.........

The paper is pretty thick, but I'm not going to chance it. Back it goes. I'll file your pics away in my "good" file for future reference. Very much appreciated, Walkwolf!
