I don't know anything about war badges, so please forgive me if this a very stupid comment, but I don't see this maker (L/50, Gebr. Godet & Co.) listed as having manufactured the U-Boot Kriegsabzeichen. Is it common for firms to make the miniature but not the full-size version? I may also have missed the L/50 U-boat badge on the list. If so, I apologize.

Hi Guys,

I'm sorry to say this mini is not an original. The same type was posted for an opinion on WAF, interestingly also from Virginia, USA, but this one was stamped L/58 without rectangle instead of L/50 in rectangle. Two spurious maker marks I'm afraid, trying to lend legitimacy to the mini. You can also see that the knurling on the pin goes in the opposite direction from usual -- not a deal breaker by itself but more common on post-war minis than wartime minis. Finally that funky eagle design is unlike any wartime U-Boat design I've ever seen.
