Thank you for the insight Norm. I didn't realize there was such a minefield in regards to post-war badges. Kind of sad when you think about it.

Most of the fakes/post-war ones I have seen are very obvious there was things wrong with them. Almost laughable when you see them advertised as originals.

Here is an example I found while doing research. It is a Lüdenscheid produced L/56 badge. Note the stamped L/56 and the poor quality of the copy.

Actually, that example you posted from Weitze (attached here) is the "classic" type, and I think that L/56 mark is actually in relief. There's no finish remaining on the numerals compared with the surrounding surface so there's a bit of an optical illusion making it appear like the mark is stamped in. It's a heavily worn example and I'm not sure if the remaining gilding we see there is original, but it doesn't look like a fake.

Weird how it looks almost stamped in those photos. I stand corrected though.
