Hello there,
An authentic badge with a silver colored catch!
William Kramer
For sure an original Schwerin, but as said by several above, a plug-ugly bird. I could never fathom out why so many people find the Schwerin badges so "special". Some of the Schwerin products were superb (HSF, 1st Type S-Boot, Aux Cruiser etc) but others were no better than other makers and some considerably worse. (Rather have a nice AS 2nd Pattern E-Boat which retained their finish well, that some crappy Schwerin with no finish and the plating covered in little bubbles.)
The Juncker U-Boat Badge is superior to the Schwerin in every way.
Reminds me a bit of the feeding frenzy around anything with an L/12 despite the fact that Juncker quality wasn't all that great either.
Still, not to knock the badge that started the thread too much, it IS original and Schwerin were the first firm authorised to produce the U-Boat badge so it has a historical importance, ( but whoever designed the badge should have been told the national emblem was a proud eagle, not a scrawny chicken )
I've never been all that impressed by the Schwerin's either. I've always thought the GWL's details to be much higher in quality. Unlike 95% of U-Boat badges, their eagles head actually Looks like an Eagle.
