There aren't many original examples of this badge in thise configuration to compare to. I believe this is an original second type R.K. badge with the catch being a seperate piece as opposed to being cast as part of the badge.
My thoughts are based upon the only two other badges I've found. It certainly doesn't have the characteristics of known fakes of this type.
Looking for LDO marked EK2s and items relating to U-406.....
Thanks again Adrian. This and my destroyer badge im sure are real. I open to any thought on my others but due to circumtances I am dead set on knowing there are good. so I guess this makes it a rare U-boat then. Not to sure if its a good thing or bad. Kinda scares people I think
You're right, sometimes rare can mean desireable but in this instance I would suggest not quite so much. Not a particularly appealing badge, most collectors would want a known and better condition maker and badge. Possibly only a dedicated U-Boot badge collector would be really interested.
