Article about: Hi all, I have two German Medals that where my father inlaws that he somehow got hold of from when he served in the Navy in the Second World War. I have no idea what they are and would like

    Hi all,

    I have two German Medals that where my father inlaws that he somehow got hold of from when he served in the Navy in the Second World War.
    I have no idea what they are and would like to find out what I can about them
    Please see photos-
    Cross swords in a kind of wallet.
    one cross, showing both sides.

    i believe u have there a ww2 knights cross (merit cross with swords) that's the one on the right and a ww1 and a ww2 iron cross the other two at the bottom.

    If the knights cross with swords is real u have a rare medal as far as i know and can read :P

    The two photos at the bottom are the same cross, showing both sides of the same cross.
    knights cross, is there any way I can find out if ti's a real one !!

    The medal on the wallet is a War merit cross with swords first class which isn't very rare i'm afraid they were issued in quite large numbers.

    sorry for the incorrect info then.
    medals aren't really my cup of tea:P
    Saw these medals on the internet and there it said that the medal with the swords was quite rare. Didn't know that there were more versions of it

    EK2's a fake IMO. The KVK (War merit med) may be ok but better pics of front & reverse are needed really. Stewy S

    Hi,
    As I have no idea about Medals could you please tell me why you think its a fake, whats a EK2's (is that the cross?) and have you any idea what the text reads on the inside of the wallet.

    the iron cross is a 2nd class original the ring has broken off.

    Hi Ned,sorry mate. I'll try & explain. First you're right an EK2's an Iron cross 2nd class awarded for a single act of bravery. The "coil" that seperates the black iron core from the outside frame looks to not have much detail,the frame seems uneven/lopsided & there's pitting on the core itself. Sorry i can't help with the writing in the wallet. Stewy S

    on the black cross (iron cross 2nd class), things to start looking for are, is the center a seperate piece from the frame ? and look for a file line (seam) around the outer edge of the crosses frame. the cross should be made of 3 pieces. core, and two frame halfs. that's a starting point.
