    Again another fake.

Designed by SS Officer Benno von Arent, but never actually produced. The dies were destroyed in an air raid before production started.

    Cheers, Ade.

Great info Ade, I thought some of these were actually made and issued. I'm confident you know. Thanks!

Hi Jay, no none ever issued. Possibly awarded "on paper".

There is a story that some of the earlier repros were made from a plaster cast taken from a test die strike. But I am not convinced to be honest and it is impossible to prove of course. There are certainly a variety of repros around, some better looking than others. This one shown here is very weak in design and dates from the 1990's.

The early repros from the 1960's were made by Souval of Vienna and were made of zinc.

    Cheers, Ade.

Even if they wern't all fakes a quite unsavoury award schild anyway taking into account the " Battle" for Warsaw !!

Here are a couple of the original artists impressions for the design for the shield which I though might be of interest?

    Cheers, Ade.

Thanks Ade, for the info. I had seen one at a gun show that had a high quality look to it, but I did not know the seller very well. He swore this award was issued. I definitely trust your word. The one I saw had the design displayed on the right. You must have alot of books Ade! You're right Paul, wasn't much of a battle was it. Kinda like giving an award for shooting fish in a barrel.

    Take care,
    Jay
