Article about: I found a photo of my granpa and wonder what the ribbon represents? Thanks.

    I thought of that Rene but the ribbon seems to end in white and with his age and low rank makes me think of local guy.

    You may be onto something there Rene.
    It is an image based on greys if you get my drift.eg from the middle srtip dark ,light,dark.


    What's this ribbon?

    The Eagle is a mystery though?

    Many thanks for your responses. Here is another photo as a Obergefreiter. This time he is wearing his tunic correctly. I have a West Wall Medal in my collection but do not remember where it came from. Perhaps it was his. He served most of his time in Poland, but I believe he was in France in the early part of the war.

    Maybe my aging eye's are playing tricks on me but it doe;s appear to have thin dark strips on the end's.But I could be blind.

    So I guess once he got his eagle and ribbon situated correctly he was promoted to Obergefreiter.

    must have, it looks to be the same jacket? going by the creases on the upper left arm, that can be like a signature

    In the first image do you think the eagle is sewn on or just sitting on a fold.Have a look at the depression in the tunics material just under the bird.
