    Just comparing it quickly to the one offered on the Collector's Guild, I have to say that this one isn't looking all that good. The big dangling beak and the baggy eyes on the eagle certainly don't compare well with it. The fineness of the embroidery details is fairly lacking also.

    Thanks for that ,I to noticed that it had a bit of a large beak when compared with others but then again they all seem to have variances (manufacturers differances i suppose) maybe these badges are to close to call, Anyone else ? Cheers Paul

    Well, I am no expert when it comes to cloth badges and I have always been wary because of the high number of fakes around as well as the problems with authentication. However, although these are not the best pictures I think this one looks a lot like the so called "type 3". The type 3 is highly faked, probably because it doesn't use a padded back or mesh layer but as far as I know the biggest giveaway with the fakes is that dark thread is seen on the back of the eagle where light thread can be seen on this one which is a good sign. Another distinct feature of the type 3 is the contrast between close / dense stitching on the eagle head and beak and much less dense or "looser" stitching on the body. The shape of the badge is more rounded than the definate oval shape of other types and the laurel berries (left side is laurel for victory and the right side is oak for strength) are very round compared to other types. Overall this one looks OK but as I say I am no expert here so these factors along with others such closer examination if you can, knowledge of the seller (reputation / personal experience) and price should help you make a choice.

    I hope this helps.

    Regards

    Mark

    Mmmmmm 50/50 , I like Marks Facts & information, But then again i like Wagriffs observations, As Harry Hills would say "FIGHT" (UK comediens catch phrase) has anyone seen this "muppet" beak on a known original badge for sure, Cheers Paul

    Well,

    I was a little unsure with this one.

    So, for what it is worth I consulted the membership of another forum specialising solely in Third Reich awards and here are replies I received from two very well respected collectors of TR badges;

    "Hi Mark,
    Yes, I would agree - a good "Type 3" In Stoff."

    and

    "Hi Mark,

    Don't see anything wrong here either. Nice quality and good detailing. "

    I know this doesn't offer you any proof unless you know these guys and trust their opinions but I do and on that basis as well as my own knowledge I would now be happy to say this is a good example.

    There is a pinned thread on these on the WRF and the variations that can be found are bewildering and this version appears to match others I have seen that were thought to be good originals, and though I no longer look at such as this it is something you don't forget. If you are a member there, you can find it in the FJ section, jump badges in cloth it is called and if you can't find it without a link then perhaps you need to find another hobby.
    Regards,

    Jerry

    Whatever its just an opinion.
