Its a fake IMO. It has completely wrong reverse hardware for Osang paratrooper badge. It should have catch with round base plate, hinge is also totally wrong. Rivets are wrong as well. This is one of many copies of Osang paratrooper badge.

    Best regards,
    Franko

I am inclined to agree with the above. The hinge certainly looks too long and the catch is just wrong as far as I can tell. The rivets look odd in these pics at least. Are they definatly rivets rather than false ones?
What really strikes me though is that this badge appears to be made of brass which would be totally wrong for this maker. Osang did use a brass plate "undercoat" to the final finish but I would expect a badge of this purported age to show some sign of the zinc base metal certainly if the final finish has been lost such as; grey appearance of the high points and probably some zinc bubbling. Of course there are always exceptions and anomalies but I think I would avoid this one even with an in hand inspection. Those who specialise in FJ badges might have a different view but if looking for just one or two good examples of the type I would choose something less contentious.

Agree with all the statements above. I don't study these in detail so have to typically use my reference material but first glance at this one raised red flags to me.
"Please", Thank You" and proper manners appreciated

Lately I have seen badges that look good but turn out bad; look good due to my lack of experience but also found to look good by dealers. It seems lately collecting German badges/medals is like gambling. A good resource book and reading the forums is the best advice to avoid a bad purchase unless you have the money to gamble. I hope to post some more finds for the learning experience at least as long as ok with forum.

    thank you all

Sometimes you might have to tak a bit of a chance but that should always be based on knowledge and research, It should never be a complete gamble. If you do your research and ask here unless you are totally confident you will be in a good position to make an informed decision. If it gets a thumbs down here one would be foolish to go ahead in most cases. At least that way you are as sure as you can be of not losing your hard earned cash.

You are dead right about good reference books, they tend to be expensive (usually because of small print runs and or going out of print) but they can often save you more than the cover price on a single purchase. Don't bother with most of the mainstream "coffee table books" unless you know that the one you are thinking of is valued by collectors. You need to build your own interest specific library of collector oriented publications. In the case of the FJ badges I can personally speak for

"The German Luftwaffe and Heer Paratrooper Badges of World War II - 1936-1945" by Thomas M Durante ISBN; 978-09819295-2-1

Tom is a collector of note in the TR hobby and really knows his onions.

If you can find a copy of this book, I don't know if new copies are still available, it will serve you well even if you only ever add one badge to your collection. As well as all known variants of the Army and Airforce FJ badges it covers; cases, documents, cloth versions and miniatures. It also covers some of the more common fakes (this area can never be comprehensive) which help educate the collector as to "red flags" to watch for in any TR badge.

    I hope this helps.
