Default Juncker 3 Pattern Fallschirmschützenabzeichen des Heeres

Well...after months of layaway I finally picked up my Heer Paratrooper badge.

Original posted here when I only had dealer pictures.

    https://www.warrelics.eu/forum/falls...heeres-529248/

But thought I would start a new thread with the correct information in the thread title for future searches.

As Ned and Joe identified a 3rd pattern Junker.

Overall used but not abused with most of the silver and gold gilding remaining. Front appears to have a slight repair on the bottom but the crack did not did not go all the way through so no repairs on the back.

After purchasing two Luft Para badges that turned out to be fake. I am very happy to have this one.

    Time for a happy dance??

    Regards,

    Michael

It still retains most of the coloring in all the right places IMO.. These are "Minen" to me but I trust you have made a good and well decision to add this piece to your collection.. G-Man

Thanks G! I like that this one has been worn but still with the majority of gilding left. IMHO...It's "been there"!!!

Well done Michael, a fine award and one that I still have to get in my cabinet, although I suspect in my case it may never happen! I am "chuffed" for you mate, great buy. Leon.

    Thanks Leon.

I have a really good dealer. Although he stays local he really digs up nice stuff. I too never thought I could/would get one..,so you just never know...one may be out there and have your name on it.

very nice badge, nice condition shame about the repair but that could of been snached from a dead soldiers body so some history there

    Thanks!

The repair on the front I am told is common for this pattern as they tended to crack.

On another forum, I was told that the catch has been replaced (these typically had the flat wire catch). Personally, I see no evidence that we typically see from a repaired catch. From the pictures, the catch is quite old and has lots of patina. But if it is repaired it does raise some alternative theories.

    1) The repair on the front is not a repair but overflow of lead from replacing the catch
    2) The crack actually also caused the catch to break as well.
    3) There is a crack AND the catch broke off separately

Of these three, I tend to think that the 3rd option is the most plausible and that the repaired catch (if it is really is repaired) is period (these were worn in the field!).

If true, none of this bothers me, in some respect it, as you note, adds to the history of the piece.
