Hi, I have recently increased my interest in German war relics and am starting to put a collection together especially kriegsmarine and Uboat artefacts. I am very dubious about the amount of fake/replica items about and appreciate the forums experience and expertise in this area. My grandfather was the sole survivor of u358 Alfonso Eckert, hence my interest.

    Welcome Rossco!

A wise move to join given the fakes out there. Always remember to post BEFORE you buy. No item is so scarce that you "can't miss out buying it".
"Please", Thank You" and proper manners appreciated

My greatest fear is that one day I will die and my wife will sell my guns for what I told her I paid for them

    Hello Rossco,
    Welcome to the forum!

"My grandfather was the sole survivor of u358 Alfonso Eckert, hence my interest. "

That family connection sounds like it would be interesting to hear if you Grandfather spoke about his ordeal.

Hi, he rarely spoke but, I have a lot of photos and information regarding his time on board and his war office debrief. He had an iron cross 2nd class as well as the usual uboat badge and citation from "Rosen" He did say that the series Das Boot was pretty close to the way things were, he met my grandmother as a prisoner of war working on a farm near Malmesbury, he settled here after the war and although he didn't speak much about the war he did call this his second life. He was a lovely outgoing man with many friends and a huge love for life.
