Don't recognise the flag, but the geezer 5th from left......His face seems to ring a bell.
'I do not think we can hope for any better thing now.
We shall stick it out to the end, but we are getting weaker of course, and the end cannot be far.
It seems a pity, but I do not think I can write more. R. SCOTT.
Last Entry - For God's sake look after our people.'

In memory of Capt. Robert Falcon Scott, Edward Wilson, Henry Bowers, Lawrence Oates and Edgar Evans. South Pole Expedition, 30th March 1912.

Probably the flag of one the many 'völkisch' organisations which preceded the Nazis. Given the outdoor location and the youth of the subjects, perhaps one of 'wandervogel' groups of the German youth movement. A lot of völkisch groups used the swastika in one or other of its variations. Before 1933, the swastika was a common symbol all over the place. With the poor quality of the image it is difficult to date - perhaps 1920s? or earlier?

    Regards,

    Philip
