    Hi Stewy,

What is the first certificate for? The award date appears to be after the end of the war in Europe, and the eagle on the stamp looks like he's dropped his swaz.

Is it to do with his discharge from service?

    Kind Regards, Ned.

The Lappland shield was issued whilst the awardees were POW's. That's why the shield itself's a dodgy wicket as they were all handmade out of whatever was available alu. spoons, tin etc. They were allowed to wear them. That's why you'll never see a Swaz on either the doc or a shield. I've seen docs dated as late as Oct'45 Stewy S
