    Hi,

Would it be possible to locate a SS unit called "4/I/27 SS-Stand.", around 1934?

    Thanks,

Hi Neil, feeling lazy after a couple of glasses of wine (!) so it is easiest for me to post a link for you to understand how the SS Standarte were organised:

Allgemeine-SS Order of Battle - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

During the war these Allgemeine SS units basically existed on paper with just a handful of members. No unit history printed that I am aware of?

    Cheers, Ade.

    Hi Ade,

So what were they for? then how does one know where he fought and what battles during the war? strange.

    Thanks,
    Neil

Hi Neil, no, these were "Political" General (Allgemeine) SS. They were not Waffen SS units. They did not fight.

    Cheers, Ade.

    Hi Ade,

Sorry, my knowledge is not that good on this subject. So they did not fight in the war, not stationed in KZ, they did office work only? and what kind? and this one in particular?

    Thanks,
    Neil

Hi Neil, this is a very broad subject.

Hollywood has a lot to answer for!

The organisation of the SS is a huge and very complex subject. Much more than I can explain here.

During the war these were usually part time, over age guys, who did admin type work at best. Many were simply paper members.

    Cheers, Ade.

This would be the 4th Sturm of the I Sturmbann of Standarte 27. The Allgemeine SS in these years was constantly being reorganized as it grew. The best English language secondary sources are that of Lumsden and Mollolooking for an SS unit

here is the insignia of a not unlike unit, but in this case the 4 Sturm in the II Sturmbann.
