Ostarbeiter Identity Card
Hello folks.
This is a recent pickup, and a rather poignant one. This being an 'Arbeitskarte' for an Ostarbeiter (Eastern Worker).
This card was issued to one Nadija Tereschenko, born 25th May 1920, in Kiev, Ukraine. She worked on a farm in Steyr, Austria, owned by an Anton Weindl. It was issued on 26th March 1945, little more than a month before the end of the war in Europe.
Slave workers from the occupied USSR made up 33 percent of the German foreign labour force, more than any other occupied nation. Over 2,100,000 people in total. The arms manufacturer Steyr-Daimler-Puch was a notorious employer of slave labour, though countless other employers and large companies were guilty of the same.
Regards, B.B.
