Re: Post your death notices
Very nice card, cannot find the exact place but it is certainly in the are Krivoy Rog/Dnepropetrovsk (that is where the division was at that moment). Interesting fact is that by 15 of October in division was only 1 functioning tank, so the person must be a replacement and was probably KIA in one of the first engagements.

This is Josef Hertel, of Panzergrenadier-Regiment Grossdeutschland (as seen on his boards). He was KIA in Neu-Weg, Ukraine (?) on November 15, 1943. Volksbund says it is in NE Ukraine..but I cant find it. It translated to "New Path" I beleive.

Couple new interesting ones.
First up Valentin Consdorf, a ForsterAnwarter/Gefreiter in a Grenadier Regiment!
He died from heavy wounds in the defensive fighting in Miaczya, Poland.....near the border of Ukraine on July 23, 1944. He was 20 years old.
Dont know much about forestry personell, so cant comment if he was Previously in the Forestry service, and later transferred to a Grenadier Regiment......or if the Grenadier regiment had a forestry specialist maybe? Or, since he was an Anwarter...maybe he was a forestry personnel candidate? i dunno
That's a very interesting one, and you brought up the very good question that it raises. I wonder if Andreas would know about this?

Försteranwärter [= lit. "forester candidate", i.e. a trainee forestry official] was his civilian occupation prior to being called up for military service; Gefreiter was the military rank he held when he was KIA.

Re: Post your death notices
Here is my only one. I don't think it is a death notice but a thank you for the sympathy due to a soldier's death.

Yes, that's right. This would have been sent to the people who had partaken in the funeral and/or sent or expressed their condolences.
