Ritterkreuz Recipient Hinrich Ahrens-How did He Earn It?
Hello Guys...
I just bought an autographed photo of Knight's Cross Recipient Hinrich Ahrens. Can anyone tell me what he accomplished in order to earn the decoration?
Any information AT ALL about him or his unit is greatly appreciated!

Hinrich won his RK for actions in Oct 1944 ( Award date 9/1/45 ) , as a Geschutzfuhrer with 13 / Grenadier Regt 1141 of the 561 Volks Grenadier Divison. He destroyed a number of Soviet tanks with his 3.7cm PAK and in close combat with panzerfausts.
I met him a few times he was a nice guy !!

I met him three times at OdR meetings in Germany , Siegburg 2002 , Bamberg 2003 and Hameln 2004.

It was mate i got to meet a lot of Famous Knights Cross , German Cross in gold and Close Combat in Gold winners plus at the Siegburg one Otto Gunsche turned up to meet with Fritz Darges both of whom were Hitlers Adjutants.
I have been to others but these were the ones where i met Hinrich Ahrens who also won the DKiG , Close combat clasp , 4 PVA etc.

paul that rings a bell i am sure you have spoke of meeting one or more here before at the forum? a few once in a lifetime experiences there for most of us on here mate, and you have had the pleasure of doing it multiple times and i think most will also agree your a lucky man!

I have probably mentioned it before Ewan , i was just lucky mate many years ago i got to know a veteran of the Der Fuhrer Regiment who introduced me to Waffen SS RKT Sepp Lainer and it all led on from there . It has given me the priviledge to learn about Battles from both sides of the front and meet some very interesting fighting men.
