i'll get in touch with Horst Herpolsheimer from 11 / DF and see if he will send me a copy of his EK I doc which may have been signed by Kaiser !!
It shouldn't be as he wouldn't of had the authority to sign such an award as only Divisional Commanders and above had that authority (although obviously we see examples of that authority delegated to a Regimental Commander signing on behalf of the Div. Cdr.)
Michael Miller gives him the same date for the promotion but backdated to 1942.

Of course your are correct i meant his EKII !! Herposheimer is the only vet i am still in touch with from III / DF !!

Same goes for the EK II - divisional (and above) authority only, although the Fallschirmjäger's bent that rule on Crete.
If he has signed anything it will be something like an Infantry Assault Badge or Eastern Front citation and others along those lines.

Must admit i ddin't realise that applied to the EK II as well, cheers for that !!
