Very interesting so he was serving with the T Division when he was killed , is the Casualty record from Ancestry ?
So this is now a bit of an enigma , what is the DF connection ? Some of the photos are clearly after his death , yet none show any T Div insignia or Flak guns !!

Thought shall be the harder , heart the keener,
Courage the greater as our strength faileth.
Here lies our leader ,in the dust of his greatness.
Who leaves him now , be damned forever.
We who are old now shall not leave this Battle,
But lie at his feet , in the dust with our leader

Yes this was on Ancestry.

Do you read the cause of death as Minen?
-
I didn't realise there was still so much interest in this album!
For what it's worth, I would read the cause of death as 'minen'. I'm no Andreas when it comes to Sutterlin, but I've spent a lot of time staring at it in Wehrpasses and Soldbucher, and that's what it looks like.

Not got much to add from what already has been added to this great thread, but by 'Minen' could it refer to both what we would call a landmine, but also a 'Minen' in the sense of a Minenwerfer/Short range mortar?

So maybe Karl's sterbebild has just come with the album , the owner of which was in the DF and Karl was a brother or friend of the album ownerwho was in the T Division and was KIA ?

That would appear possible Paul, it's perhaps human nature to assume the sterbebild was in the album because it was a close connection, there's more to this collection than meets the eye.
-
The plot thickens!
This album definitely has the 'feel' of something put together in memory of Karl Stockinger. As opposed to something he put together himself, with his death notice tacked in the front after he died. A brother, maybe? The envelope does contain what appears to be a family photograph.
This is probably one of those cases of 'we'll never know.'

I agree, a keeper for sure and a fascinating collection of images. Plenty of potential research therein. Love it.
