of cap buttons/badges like the one in the
photo, and I appreciate seeing pics
of them in wear.........

Interesting photo, thank you. I'm interested in how one distinguishes between SS soldiers assigned to front line duties in the Totenkopf Division and those serving as camp guards? I noticed that these men are all of quite mature years and so wondered if they might be the latter? However, I'd imagine that the original members of the TK Division had a somewhat higher average age anyway, as they were raised out of those men who had been camp guards before the war.
