What can you guys tell me about the two units he was in (the Infanterie Nachrichten-Ersatz-Kompanie 157 and the Stabskompanie Grenadier-Regiment 261)? Was the Nachrichten like the Signal Corps or something? Can you guys tell what unit he was in when these photos were taken? Anything else interesting would be appreciated, thanks.

Hi Joe, welcome to the forum.
You pretty much have all the basic info to start your research. Believe it or not, it is a lot more info than most family members have to start with! lol But they are nice family portraits and thanks for sharing them.

You Probably already know this but.....
It seems that he was transferred to the reformed Grenadier rgt 261 after it was destroyed at Stalingrad. The unit then served on the Central Sector of the Eastern Front from March to November 1943, where the unit suffered heavy losses and was disbanded.

Use this site to look up info about his death: volksbund.de

Hi Bill, thank you for the information. I definitely believe it that people start with less info, I was one of them at one time! I came by the pictures by establishing communication with a relative that I've never met before and the information came from about a years worth of waiting for Berlin to get back to me.
