Why does a Heer soldier ( an EK2 winner at that ) in France in 1940 have a SS skull on his tunic???
And what is the gun - a Bergmann??

He's using a Steyr MP-34. It was soon replaced by the German designed MP40. As to why he has an SS cap skull on his tunic....maybe he had a friend or a brother in the Waffen's?

My first thought must be he is taking cover from something on the sky. A fighterplane or a angry bird. Why he is using a skull is a good question, maybe he found it and is keeping it like a good luck charm.
Yes i saw the writing at top. is that from whats written on the obverse of pic?
Sorry, dont know helmet shield identifiers.
Is this pic on ebay/ for sale somewhere?
