Many contemporary photos exist showing Heer guys wearing bit s of Waffen SS insignia and vice versa probably he just liked the Deaths Head and wanted to wear it whilst in action !!

the tricolour shield on the helmet.........

Tricolour decal was removed by 1942, and it's an archival photo.

Maybe it was his 'Gung-Ho' Officer's cap badge who was
going to get him killed.........!

It came up in Google Images when I was trawling - I think I entered 'German machine pistols' or something?
It wasn't on EBay - and just struck me as odd so I saved a copy ( this was only in the last few days )
I will try to find it again........ must have piqued everyone's interest!!!

Would it possibly be one of the units who wore a skull traditions badge?
I know it's usually seen on the visor cap and I know this is an SS skull but did these units ever wear such a thing on the uniform? It might be a case of making do.....
