The zippers are laced into the boot, going under the laces.
An early attempt at speed lacing, not sure if they where issue or private purchase.
I see them now and then at surplus stores.

Thanks. The zippers are private purchase. Each side of the zipper is attached with a short shoe lace. The 1984 jungle boots I wear with zippers. Rich A. in Pa.
