    Default Two Unusual Bush Hats

    Hello all,

These came with a lot of Vietnam era webbing. I had not seen these styles of headgear as yet.

One appears like a giggle hat, no markings, two small brass grommets on each side and a small sewn-in green-red-blue... flag/unit colours? Although not commonly seen I have viewed at least one period image in which an Australian soldier wears a bush hat with similar 'close to each other' side grommets. I'll try to retrieve it in the meantime.

The other appears more like a beret. It has brass grommets on the rear with a tan cotton adjustment tie. It has a band for inserting foliage for camouflage. This hat certainly once was marked, but they are far too faded to read.

I have no doubt they both have some age. Has anyone any idea what they are?

    Cheers

The second one is a beret. In fact it rather reminds me of some I've seen that were made in South Vietnam, with the cotton tape tie.

There was a WWII jungle beret which this looks like.

The bush hats change little from 44, but how this applies to Aussie kit I could not say.

    Whatever its just an opinion.

Don't mention the B-B or you will cause me an ear worm!

Did the B-B ever wear SS helmets? That would be a freaky episode.

The Beret is a Australian WW2 issued headdress for jungle fighting. Correct the band is for vegetation.
Certain units used them during training in the late 50-late 60s in Australia.
1 RAR used them in 65 in SVN.
I have not seen any dated ones post WW2.
These berets with the cloth loops are slightly different to the work berets in green and khaki - made for tradesmen etc
