Regarding the "I" referring to infantry - maybe - maybe not. I have not seen anything like it. Hopefully, someone with more expertise will weigh in. NH
Nice case normally the markings on these is around the lip of the case at the front i have the same type of case with early stamps
The "I" marking on the lid of the case is not for "Infanterie".
These marking can be found as an "I" for a case intended for the usual 6x30 Dienstglas. Other smaller cases can be found with "II" for other sizes of Binos accepted for Military use in lieu of the usual 6x30's due to shortages and allowing for older stocks of smaller sized binos or impressed binos to be used up.
