Hi everyone,
I've got this 1941 dated WW2 German Blank Ammo box, I believe it holds 1260 rounds? My main question is, what do the markings mean on the lid, it looks like '858' could this be a regiment, or is it the serial number, there is a faint marking above but I cannot read it. Any information that you guys have please share it, I'd love to know more about the item, and the markings, what do the markings mean?!
Kindest Regards,
Hetz
Difficult to be precise, but the style of lettering is certainly of the type seen on WWII German equipment. I believe the '858' will refer to a Company or Platoon, but possibly others on here can give more definite info.
( PS : For a tenner you certainly weren't robbed ! )
At least I now know it's original lettering. Thanks for the help Martin, I was also thinking that it could have been to do with a regiment, but it could be anything.
