Coconut canteen is not DAK. (IMO) My reenactment group banned them from North Africa events. (Because of no photo evidence)
Your canteen is original it just not North Africa,
By 1943 DAK was on the ropes and soldats were being rushed in with continental uniforms. ( Oh Yes WOOL uniforms in the desert) So the change out canteen for coconut highly unlikely if at all, Their main concern at that time was to hold back Allies, Not to issue out the correct equipment.
Thanks Adrian and Franz. Im just glad it is an original unlike all my other items haha.
The originality of this item is out of doubt for me, only that it is incomplete, some straps missing, the cup and so, but still a very cool item.. I am looking out for one, hope it comes by soon...
Cheers.. Dan
Unlike some, I have Never considered this to be an "Afrika Korp" canteen.
I consider it to be a tropical canteen for issue in hot climates. This could be North Afrika, Italy or southern Russia.
