Busch Dienstglass Serial Number - any help?
Hy Guys!
I just bought this Busch 6x30 Dienstglass.
It hasn't got the H/6400 marking, but it has assignments inside the lense.
I'm interested in it's year of manufacture. The serial number is: 185814 - so when was it made?
Could someone help me out with that? Someone says it's mid 30's, but I bought it that it was made in 1939... I also know that Busch - Rathenow used "cxn" code fromt 1940 november or in 1941-45, so it was made before that date, but when exactly?

Still couldn't find nothing about this binocular's serial number - manufacture date. Any help?
I think they are late 1930s made due to the brass parts on them , later ones have alu parts
That's interesting because someone told me that he thinks it's mid, or early 1930's.. I also told by the seller, that germans stopped making these from brass in 1939, and started to manufacture them with aluminium. Also.. in 1940 november Busch name was "cxn" so it's correct it's from before. But when exactly
Carl Zeiss manufactured bino's have a list with s.numbers & year of man., but Busch-made doesn't?
You may be right these could have been made anytime in the 1930s , i have never seen a list of dates made for Busch using the Ser number , i know the germans strated using 3 letter codes from 1940 on so yours are pre 1940
A real misteryI always run into things (originals of course) which are hardly identifiable
One more question:
I also want to buy for this a storage case. I saw them from leather, bakelite in brown/black. Which type is for this kind of model? Is there difference from the black or brown bakelite cases? I mean different squads, era etc..?
I would get a leather case for these keeping with the early model of the binoculars
Hardly a mystery... pre 1939 Busch Dienstglas. Many other makers (almost all) out there don't have a break down by year, so there are thousands of these perfectly identifiable "mystery" items out there. Also many good lists of Dienstglas that have been tabulated by collectors that can give you an idea of time of production. Yes, the cases are mostly era specific, bakelite being later.by xedos6
A real mistery
Interesting you should mention "different squads," Busch are also the only maker I can remember that holds the distinction of some very interesting (fantasy item?) RZM SS marked Diesntglas, which I for one will just assume they are fakes. Link to thread posted below.

Well, now it is a very long range project,
please send me by Private mail all data on your Dienstglas 6x30, 7x50 and 10x50 model binoculars, plus serial number and maker, I am attempting to create a database
Only will be accepted models with the word dienstglas stamped and number, could be maker marked or code marked, only WWII
I am trying is to form batches of binoculars #'s and cross information with pieces with known provenance, also if you have provenance with your binoculars, please comment, dates, formation, past owner (veteran) info,where captured etc etc.

Thank you for the list! I've already seen this. I'm not a binocular expert, so I meant the "different squad" by mountain troops, drivers etc, it was just some kind of "idea".
The RZM SS marked Diesntglas that you showed me it's fake definately. It's the same kind of model like mine WITHOUT those fake markings, a later one in aluminium, the serial number is way over than mine's.. Furthermore, mine hasn't got the Rathenow word on it, but it doesn't mean nothing. I accept now then it's a pre 1939 model somewehere in the 30's.
Believe it or not, the Busch SS binos have an almost cult following with some people (judging by an occasional crazy eBay selling price...), particularly the ones that have to have everything SS... There is another SS with skull variation that is not RZM marked, the RZM was a new one on me.
Btw, the #'s on yours are earlier than anything that was tabulated in the list I included, so they are early, I'm guessing 1935, or '36, or '37, or '38? ;-)
