Default "coco" feldflasche - a recent purchase

    Hi all,
I just got a well used ( as I like them ) tropical ( so called ) feldflasche in the wood resin coated variety.
I refuse to get trapped in the DAK myth so until photos showing them used in Africa surface, Italian or Russian theater will do me fine.

A bit of strap damage where it must have rubbed on something ( gasmask kanister maybe? ) but all in all I like it ( and it WAS a local purchase which with international postage rising is always a welcome change )

These are the sellers photos, I will do some when it arrives - meanwhile I had to show off

    Cheers, Dan

    Hello,
An interesting example as the closure system includes a buckle with prong instead of the more common buckle with roller...too bad for the web, it had better days. The cup seen here is the type usually seen on medics canteens.
    Thanks

From what I have read there is a trap for the unwary with these "coconut" feldflasches.

( JP & Tom, please correct me if I am wrong in the following )

The Heinrich Ritter company engineered the method to wrap metal with synthetic resin in the late 30`s, a patent was filed in 1941 but the patent was given after the war in 1954. No other company in Germany made these kind of canteens and Ritter continued after the war to produce them.

Wartime manufacture will have markings like the following...
    D.R.G.M.
    HRE41/42/43/45
    D.R.P. angm

D.R.G.M. Deutsches Reich Gebrauchsmuster. (German Reich Registered Design) - Pre 1949
D.R.P. Deutsches Reichpatent. (German Reich Patent) - Pre 1949

BUT the post war ones are marked ...
    Ritter
    Alfurit
    D.R.Pa

This old post has some discussion on the topic.
