Of course i know what you're talking about...owning each variant made of each item is a task almost impossible to achieve, but it's an old dream...
Concerning grey ones, as far as i remember, just look for a normal one but grey instead of yellow...
IMO Gefechtsgepäcken used at the Infanterieschule for trials in 1938/39 were grey ones and i wouldn't be surprised at all if someday one 1938 dated pop up somewhere...even a relic...
