    All I can tell you is Salzkotten is the makers name. I guess it was for petrol (gasoline)

    Can be one of those can that were sold with/found in the trunk of top-end cars...i.e. you would buy the can for a boatload of Reichsmark and they'd give you a Mercedes Benz 500k Luxus as a freebie!
    Joking apart....I think it's civvy but most likely of 1930s vintage.
