The suggestion to hold out for something better was probably the best advice. But, the canteen is salvageable. It is possible to find clean covers to replace the worn example. You could also add repro cover and strap and cup. It would make a good re-enacting canteen. NH

( personally I have never had luck with parts canteens - odd parts & covers never shrink at the same rate and always look sloppy or too tight )
As mentioned the best option is to buy as good as you can and pay the high prices .....
