Hello Timothy,
What you have there is a M34 Tornister that has lost its leather carrying straps and was modified to be retained to Y-straps...
Here is the Heer Tornister nomenclatura :
M34 with carrying straps and messkit pocket sewn inside.
M39 with leather tabs and the vertical buttoned strap on the flap for the A-frame OR with carrying straps for troops that were not issued Y-straps. This version is less known than the latter because as Y-straps became "general" issue from 1943, many Tornister were modified and lost their straps...
Thanks

Of course JP is entirely correct
If you see the strap on the fur side (like shown here on a non - fur one) you know that it is a M39 one and should have the 4 hooks to hang the Tornister in the Y straps
This one also has the D-rings on top to hang the A-frame
Tom
Thanks all for the great valuable lesson on these. timothy
