    I believe they were originally intended to be gas markers, rather than mine. But as it turned out, the use changed ....... went on a red metal pole & there were 12 to a set in a leather pack.

    Hi, I saw one recently and I think c10-20euros is about the money, good item, but very common and not very valuable. I saw a cased set a few years back and I think that was about £80UKP, though that was probably a good price.

    Hello,
    These are indeed gas related items, meant to create safe corridors for attacking troops in areas where gas had potentially been spread. Prior to place them in the ground in order to create corridors, "Z teams" were supposed to test the air in the area with a special equipment.
