    Hello!
I have a question - whether there were black covers for canteens for HJ and SS?

    J. Angolia, in his book "Hitler Youth", wrote that the early HJ canteen covers were black.
Is there some sort of documentary evidence of this? Is it possible that this is a mistake of the author?
Unfortunately, much information I could not find.

And one more question, on SS covers. I know, that usually SS covers was the same as that of the Wehrmacht canteens, but recently I saw an interesting catalog, "Junger Jager & Co" manufacturer:

In addition to the standard WH and SA covers, the manufacturer offers delivery and black covers for SS:

Can anyone have information about this? Maybe, is it only the "unrealized idea"?
    Best regards, Michael

When one looks at the drawings from "Uniformen der HJ" from 1933/1934
one could think the cover for the bottle was black.
But in the regulation from January 1934 (Bekleidung und Ausrüstung der HJ )
it is mentioned as graumeliertem Filz, so a greyish tone, which was a darker grey.

In the manufacturing-regulations "Herstellungsvorschrift der RZM" from 1936 (page 107),
the color for the felt was mentioned to be black.

Thank you Wilhelm, I would like to know first of all it is your opinion about it. Apparently, Angolia made a small mistake?

It is not my opinion, but the description from the regulations.
What would be the mistake? The "graumeliert" could be as
    dark as black!

Maybe he outlined a "dark" color like "black?"

See what I wrote about the 1936 manufacturing-regulations: black.
When they changed from the darker greyish material into this black,
I do not know, but surely will have been anyway about 1935.

Thank you Wilhelm, I did not see you added text. This question is now clear.

I managed to find only "Der Jungvolkdienst" and "Der Jungmaedeldienst" 1940 year, which referred to covers "graue" color. So I thought that a "black" could not be. Interestingly, when it was replaced by black to gray between 1936 - 1940 year, and for what reason.

Meliert means streaked of flecked. That may suggest a mottled looking color. Utility cloth known as Grünmeliert has specks of gold in the green color cloth. NH

German companies like Stoff Kontor still make similar material. Here is a sample photo of their Grau Meliert Dunkel. Looks black. Seems to be a popular, multi-use material. NH
