Default JSD 43 marked canteen cup?

    Hello Gent's,
I was cleaning out one of my ammo crates and found this canteen I got years ago. I'm just wondering who the maker JSD is?

Also I am used to seeing the aluminum canteen's and this one is red painted sheet steel . When did they start making them that way?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I already checked the search function and could not find the answer. So hence me asking the experts.

The only marking I could find is the cup. I saw on another thread that there was a marking on the canteen itself but mine has no markings that I could see.

Sept.1944 according to my reference book. "Sept.1944 the aluminum previously used in the manufacture of canteens & cups was replaced with a heat-treated lacquered plate, red in color & etched".
"Despite the official date...copies can be found from 1943"
    So.....looks like 1943

I have a lacquered canteen in my collection. It has no markings but the cup was dated1944. Tom might have more info on the cups. By the way, don't even think about drinking out of that canteen! NH
