As for the mismatched scabbard, it could be anything really. It could be due to a soldier who was serving in 1944 finding a better condition bayonet on a fallen comrade and swapping it with his older and probably more worn one from 1935 or it could be as simple as a collector who owned it before you combining his best bayonet and scabbard to make a nice condition set. Either way, it's all part of the history .
1944 was an important year as well so as you say, it's a good date to have.
I'd like to see what other militaria you've got if you get chance to share a picture, it's always great seeing other people's collections and what they focus on.
