Luft Flare Pistol

I just purchased a collection & this was part of it. I was wondering what the Luftwaffe used them for?

The double bbl'd flare pistol is neat! I've had one for 40 yrs.
Used for signaling A/C to take off or land and for whatever else a flare pistol was needed for.

There is one on the wall in the Bar of "The Nelson's Head" Public House, Horsey, Norfolk, England. Taken from a crashed German Plane in the village WW2.

Love these pistols with the brass hardware. Very high quality. As I understand, Fl numbers are for flight-related equipment, and Ln numbers are for communications (Nachrichten) equipment. You can find these flare pistols with Ln or Fl numbers, the Fl being the more scarce.
