    That is neat Dave. Is it for cold weather? Bomber related?

    Thanks you both for your interest,i wish i knew something about who or when it was used ,but the only info i have.. is what appears in Mick Prodgers book.

    Fairly new to this forum, so I'm "waking the dead" on some of these threads, but I really like Luftwaffe equipment. Dave, these masks were pre-war and used when flying in open-air cockpits, or so I'm told. I haven't seen one war-time dated, though I'm sure they were used then. Those aircraft were like flying meat lockers! I have a very similar-looking one, and it's also had the bejesus stamped out of it.

    BTW, Dave, I think I recognize you from way back MCF...

    I believe that this mask was for a naval (Kriegsmarine) aviator assigned to See Fliegerhorst Kommandantur Nest. This was near the modern-day Polish town of Uniescie, on the Baltic Sea coast. It would make sense to have a face mask, since many of the naval aircraft of the time had open cockpits.
