the markings on lid are under the paint - but thankfully the seller didn't touch th paint...

never saw a white ammo box, I have a grey post war painted by a civil.
In the 70's, theree was in the Falaise pocket one garage with ONLY such boxes, the walls made in wooden ammo box, one year, I came, all was away.

All of them recovered here in Hungary - where all the fighting (Siege of Budapest, etc.) took place in winter time with heavy snow.

I just asked the seller (who sold his collection - all items really under-priced - for he needs quick cash for moving to another country) where he got the can, he bought it in a flea market here in Hungary 8 years ago...

    cheers,
    Fabe

    Update:

The can arrived - took some quick telephone shots in the kitchen (sorry)

'Seems, the can was painted (hand-brushed) with a white oil-based paint, so by now - the paint turned a bit light-yellowish-tan. I've placed my other two steel cans behind the 'white-camo' can, for compare. Those have 1943 factory gelb/yellow paint on them. The camo can also used to be gelb - see a the third close-up pic, with the white on top of the gelb paint...

    Cheers,
    Fabe
