guys the bag used to have 2 buttons it has some remaining stitches of the other button i was looking at it yesterday.... someone just removed them (buttons and D ring but i bielieve that is a ww2 period bag that's just heavily used
you can clearly see the leather was cut off and the button stitches on the pictures provided below

I have posted multiple pictures of mine below for you to compare which is very similar if not identical to yours. My feeling is that they are both WWII Period - German Hitler Youth Breadbags. Yours does have different leather tabs on back so could be earlier WWI as others have stated or just a variant. Mine is a little more brown and yours more almond tan but that could be age too? Open to other Fieldgear experts and their thoughts on period canvas and rucksacks. Hope this helps you out.
