    stuff that was in with the lot from the soldier in the 28th div. its like hard chunks of stinky stuff, very heavy , marked rif 114 . i am thinking it needs to be thrown away, it looks like old bar soap.

    RIF stands for "Reichstelle fuer industrielle Fettversorgung" which would indicate, coming from this entity, that it is indeed soap.

    it was of notoriously poor quality.

    an example:

    it is not exactly identical to yours, but these bars where cheaply made and exist in a lot of configurations.

    during the war, there were some very macabre (and totally untrue) rumours about how RIF soap was made. you can research this.

    i wouldn't toss it. it has historical interest.

    the rumour involving this particular soap got all the way up to Himmler. there are orders issued by him because of it.

    wow how weird lol, il get better pictures , so its ww2 german ? it stnks so bad like a musty old garage. sure must take on a funny smell after a while i guess. it is almost heavy as stone. i thought maybe it was some sort of composite used for a "charge" or something... lol ive seen these old vets stil havesome pretty crazy stuff from time to time. had to check.. wow soap cool is it somewhat rare and of value?

    Concentration camp victims soap has been debated for years now...the last article I saw on it said it had never actually existed but had been proposed as a possibility.
