    Or could the number 17 point towards something else than the caliber ????

    Hmm the number 17 is only an factory mark.
    The shell is an airplane MG 151 20 mm i suppose of your foto.
    The mark P 490 is the factory of Hugo Schneider A. G. Werk Altenburg.
