Thanks Ade! I was right - the boots are for non mounted and their issue in the TR era must have been short lived. I don't think I saw that thread previously. It seems there was a bit of experimentation with clothing and gear during the inter-war years. Thanks Tom for the input on the axe - I knew you would chime in. Found your photos on line but did not feel it was right to post them without permission. NH

I can confirm - the shovel is red army...I have one just like it (dated 1944)
days ago find such axe. of course its not a fireman.
Just wanna renew for own collection. complect for this pouch.
Maybe somebody can give some link or know how long must be stem of the axe (according to wehrmacht rules), curvature of stem?

after repairing axe. timber little bit burned by lodlamp then stayed in water & once again.
looks better than fresh timber.
texture of timber depends of timber type
