Question reg. Entrenching Tools...

Hi All and Happy 2013!

I'm looking to buy a german entrenching tool (not a folding one) - but it seems there are no markings on it...

When I asked the seller he wrote:

"There are no markings because in the late years of war the manufactures didnt stamp a year or something like this.

But its pre 1945.

You can see this by the way of production."

Is he telling the truth?

no, it has sand paint on it

but I don't mind if it's a fake paint job - I worry about being pre 1945...

It would be nice with a better/larger pic

I think the wooden handle looks a bit strange. The "ball" is very big. Also i can't see any rivets. Maybe it's just because of the small pic and the paint.

Hello,
at first sight it could do the trick as it has no ring around the upper part of the handle and no rivet, but it is not what it is supposed to be : a german WWII entreching tool....not even late war. The lack of folded ears on the blade is a good giveaway.

Datrus : there is no rivet on a regulation german straight shovel produced between 1934/35 and 1945.

Is there not supposed to be rivets where the handle "carrier" attaches to the shovel head??? Is the ring around the handle "carrier" and rivets for Reichwehr then?

German ww2 spades are spot welded, not riveted

Hope you can see it on this detail shot (also visible the folded ear)

Ring and rivets are indeed WW1 features but also other countries (dutch, swiss etc)
