So what are these ones?
They DON'T have the collar but they DO have the rivets and the added handle support.
They "look" to be pre-war to me ( or at least made with less quality to them )?
Dan
You would find some like this Lars - surely?

Hi everyone!
Here is my item It was found in Norway.
So it's only the war time shovels that are welded then?
Regards, Lars
Hello,
voje85 : your shovel looks like a WWI german one...with thin ears folded and riveted.
Datrus : yes only the germans shovels produced between 1934/35 and 1945 are welded, all other ones are riveted (some postwar shovels are also welded but it's not the same type of welding).
All WWI and WWII straight shovels were patterned after the Linnemann brevet, with rivets, ring around the handle and the huge majority with non folded ears. During WWI germany produced a shovel with folded and riveted ears, like the one shown by voje85. Between the dates given above, germany produced shovels that were welded, without ring and with folded ears...i'm only talking about militariy shovels of course, there was still a civilian market then and i presume that the standard gardener small shovel was still riveted....)
The german soldiers used many types of shovels.
Thanks
