normally WW2 cans are dated
I can't tell you if it is genuine ss but this one seems odd
hello
thx for reply
These are never dated.
I can show you a 100% original can from my collection originally bought for £5.00 in Normandy. Ignore the paint. I initially covered the hideous Lime Green which the French Farmer had painted it. I have now stripped it back to the original Feld Grau.
Cheers, Ade.
There you go Milan you're on a winner
Indeed I forgot to mention that bit in my haste to show off my can
The funny thing was, the first fakes of these, made in the Czech Republic many years ago now, had the SS runes back to front in a mirror image!
Fakes cans don't use the correct font. They are often totally clean inside: they have never ever had fuel in them. Give them a smell and if possible check for rust/dirt inside. Note how on the inside of the lid the paint is really new and clean and a lighter colour: a very good sign.
Treat these like ammo boxes with regards to colours: red oxide primer with a Feld Grau or Dunkelgelb top coat.
Cheers, Ade.
"Dunkelgelb top coat"
same as this?
Yes, that is the post 1943 colour "Tan yellow" or "Ordnance tan" in English collectors slang terminology.
Cheers, Ade.
Hi Ade
thank you very much for HELP
Would the fakes correctly use the red primer base coat too? Seems like a simple detail fakers would foolishly omit...
Ohhhhh- pillage then burn...
